FAQs

Where are you located?
The Faded Apron Pie Company is a certified home bakery located in Banner Elk, North Carolina.
At this point, we do not have an actual store, but we do sell our baked goods to several area cafes and restaurants, including Sugar Mountain Cafe & Mountain Grounds Coffee Shop.

Where else do you sell your baked goods?

We also sell at the Watauga County Farmers Market in Boone, NC and the Farmers Market at East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, TN. We've also sold at various festivals, such as the Banner Elk Herb Festival and Boone's CycloVia. We're always looking for new ideas about where to sell! Contact Becky if you'd like us to setup at your event/festival.

Who does the baking?
Becky Lycan is the owner and baker of this operation. A mother of four, former teacher, missionary and enthusiastic host, Becky has years experience preparing delicious food for large crowds. She attributes much of her love for baking to her grandmother, MiMi. A great Southern cook known for her classic peach pie (see MiMi's Peach Pie on our summer menu), marmalades, and a penchant for real butter, MiMi has inspired many of the classic pastries sold at The Faded Apron Pie Company.

In spring 2013, Lauren joined our team! We've loved having her around. She's very skilled at marketing and baking!

Are your baked goods fresh?
Yes! About as fresh as you can get. We bake everything from scratch. From the pie crusts, to the cake batters, to the frostings, to the lemon fillings--you won't find anything pre-made in The Faded Apron Pie Company kitchen.

What's your philosophy?
Simplicity & quality. We don't use artificial ingredients, such as fake sweeteners and margarine. We believe in time-tested recipes that incorporate the very best ingredients, like whole butter, fresh lemons and fruits provided by our local farmers. We're always looking for ways to incorporate locally produced foods-- we welcome your suggestions!

Where do you get your blackberries?
Our blackberries, which we use to make our Blackberry Bars & Blackberry Cutie Pies, come from a Jerry Ellis' farm in Edneyville, North Carolina. Contact me if you'd like more information on his berries.

Can I order something that's not on the menu?
You can certainly try! We have done this many times in the past, and we'll do our very best to accommodate your request. Simply call or email Becky with your order.

What's a cutie pie?
The cutie pies are a miniature version of a regular pie. We bake all of our flavors in cutie pie size. They are the perfect size for a generous dessert for one or two, or a sweet little gift for your host/hostess. They're just $3.75 a pie -- which makes the deal even sweeter!

What's the best way to enjoy your baked goods?
Well, while most can't resist eating them on the spot--some of our customers like to buy several items to last them a few days. A scone for breakfast -or- a cutie pie for a dessert later in the day? Simply put them in the oven at 350 for 5 minutes. We recommend a dollop of fresh whipped cream or vanilla ice cream with all of our pies. Of course, a piping cup of coffee & a beautiful mountain view will make these baked goods taste even better.
